Born the 2nd child of 6 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Robert Edward and Theresa Alma Schmoe (only child of Doc and Alma Selvidge). Ruthi is blessed with two brothers Robert and Virgil whom are still living and reside in Klamath Falls. Ruthi grew up Alma Ruth Schmoe, playing piano and accordion as well as sewing her own clothes. One day out of the blue her father asked her what she would like to play and she told him that she would love to learn to play the banjo. So for her 16th birthday he bought her a Kent banjo. She immediately started taking lessons and 3 lessons later her instructor was called to Saudi Arabia and sadly he was killed while on this tour of duty. After that shock she looked until she found another instructor that was not in the military and after a few lessons he died of a heart attack at 40, who |

knew! Needless to say the Banjo got set aside for a long period of time and she pursued other interest such as building a life with her first husband that sadly ended 10 years later. After the annulment of this marriage, Ms. Maxwell set her sites for Morro Bay, California to spend some time with her Grandmother and regroup. She got a job with an alarm company that didn’t last too long since staring at buttons waiting for them to light up was not exactly her cup of tea and really tested her attention span. She left before she got fired. Then her Grandmother Gladys discovered a “dresser” position at the Theatre in Santa Maria about an hour away. Well that was something she had never tried, heck she didn’t even know what a “dresser” was. But it was a job in a Theatre, and that couldn’t be too bad. So there she was off on a new adventure.
